A recent South African arrival

Riddara confirmed its South African launch in a September 2026 manufacturer announcement, following the introduction of right-hand-drive RD6 and RD6 Econ models at the Festival of Motoring. The new-energy bakkie brand sits within the Geely group.

The launch broadens the choices available to South African bakkie buyers by combining a double-cab layout with battery-electric propulsion. The manufacturer’s report describes demonstrations on gradients, side slopes, muddy terrain and water crossings at the event.

Capability is part of the conversation

For the four-wheel-drive RD6, Riddara quotes maximum outputs of 315 kW and 595 Nm, with a towing capacity of up to three tonnes. These are manufacturer figures for the specified model; the South African derivative and its rated limits should be checked individually.

For anyone considering an electric bakkie, everyday use matters as much as the headline figures. Think about where you can charge, the distances you regularly cover and how often you carry or tow a load.
