A new option announced this month
GWM South Africa announced the P300 2.0T Pioneer Hi4-T PHEV on 6 October 2026, adding the first electrified derivative to the local P300 range. It pairs a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
GWM quotes combined outputs of 310 kW and 750 Nm. A 33.1 kWh battery supports electric driving, while the petrol engine remains part of the powertrain for longer journeys and changing demands.
What the plug-in format means
The manufacturer quotes up to 115 km of electric-only range under the NEDC test cycle. That is a laboratory rating; practical range depends on route, load, conditions and driving style. Regular access to charging is an important part of deciding whether a plug-in hybrid suits your routine.
The launch specification also includes low-range four-wheel drive and a braked towing rating of 3,500 kg. Confirm the exact derivative, loading limits and towing requirements with the team when comparing vehicles.
Explore it with GWM Paarl
The announcement introduces another powertrain choice for bakkie buyers. Speak to GWM Paarl about local availability, delivery timing and the current P300 line-up before planning a visit.
